Burnout, Perfectionism & Work Stress Therapy in Ontario
When the Pace You've Been Keeping Has Stopped Being Survivable
Understanding Burnout
Burnout rarely looks like collapse. More often it looks like someone still showing up, still delivering, and running on empty underneath — doing the work while feeling increasingly detached from it and from themselves. It tends to arrive in capable, conscientious people, which is exactly why it goes unaddressed for so long: everything still functions from the outside. Therapy is a place to look at what the pace is costing and what can realistically change.
Common Symptoms Include:
Burnout is an occupational phenomenon rather than a medical diagnosis, but its effects on mood, sleep, and health are real. It also responds better to changes in conditions and boundaries than to individual resilience alone — which is often a relief to hear.
Burnout follows people home. It takes the energy that was meant for relationships, interests, and rest, and the guilt about having less to give drives more overwork to compensate. Perfectionism tightens the loop, because the standard that's being missed is one you set yourself.
Our Approach to Burnout
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Examine the rules you're working under — that rest is earned, that anything less than excellent is failure — and test what actually happens when they loosen.

Clarify what you actually want your working life to serve, and make decisions from that rather than from fear of falling behind.

Practical work on where your limits are, how to hold them in a real workplace, and what trade-offs you're willing to make deliberately rather than by default.
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction
Build the ability to notice strain earlier, while there's still room to respond — rather than at the point where something gives.
